View of Gloucester
Walter Farndon, American, 1876 - 1964
1997-474
Farndon is best known for his heavily impastoed, impressionistic paintings of Mid-Atlantic and New England harbor and shore scenes. In this painting he used thick brushstrokes to depict a dock in Gloucester, Massachusetts, a popular seaside retreat for American impressionists. Farndon studied with Robert Henri and was a member of the Society of Independent Artists.
