Published between 1891 and 1903, La Revue blanche was by far the most intellectually stimulating arts journal to appear in Paris during the Belle Epoque. Founded and edited by Thadée Natanson and his brothers, the magazine championed the most forward thinking artists, writers, critics, and composers of the day-including the young Pierre Bonnard, who was com-missioned to produce this lively poster for the journal when he was twenty-seven years old. The fashionable young woman who appears on the poster is Thadée Natanson's wife, Misia, a noted beauty, gifted pianist, and adventurous patron of the arts, whose portrait was often painted by her contemporaries.
