In 1823, despite his failing health, Géricault continued to publish lithographic albums on equestrian subjects with the Gihaut Brothers, including a small album containing seven allegorical lithographs of horses in situations that reflect the diverse social conditions and occupations of their owners. Here, two farriers in a French stable yard are shoeing a draft horse in harness, relying on the strength of their arms alone to control the animal.
