Annunciation and Saint Christopher,
15th century
Nottingham School, English, 14th century
y1929-13
In the Annunciation, the Archangel Gabriel tells the Virgin Mary that she will have a child. This moment is described as the Incarnation, because God is made flesh (incarnated) in the person of Jesus. The actual moment of the Incarnation is shown by representing the Holy Spirit, in the form of a dove, issuing from the mouth of God the Father above.
