Aeneas carrying Anchises,

Formerly attributed to the French sculptors Pierre Le Pautre (1659–1744) and Laurent Guiard (1723–1788), this terracotta sketch model of Aeneas carrying his father from the burning city of Troy remains enigmatic. The artist may have been from Lorraine, where there was a tradition of small terracotta sculpture, either as finished works in terre de Lorraine or as small ceramic figures.
