Among the most accomplished of the Pennsylvania Impressionists, a group active around Bucks County, Pennsylvania, during the early twentieth century, Spencer specialized in paintings of the area’s historic mills and other light industrial buildings. End of Day depicts a characteristic scene incorporating workers along what is likely the Delaware and Raritan Canal in Lambertville, New Jersey.
