Description
This painting is composed of original fragments and later infill. Manjusri's (J: Monju Bosatsu 文殊菩薩) head at center is on a separate piece of paper, and the calligraphic inscription at right is affixed to the scroll surface, covering some lines. Chinkai's name is seen in the surviving lower part of the inscription, and the year 1202 (建仁二年) appears in the upper section. The rest of the painting, probably dates before 1202 and probably was executed in the 12th century. An inscription on the back of the painting is dated 1684.
