White Sun,
1966
Isamu Noguchi, 1904–1988; born Los Angeles, CA; died New York, NY
y1969-129
Noguchi created White Sun while developing The Garden (Pyramid, Sun, and Cube) at Yale University. Princeton's is one of several study versions; others include a black granite sun now in Seattle. Drawing on both Eastern and Western cultural traditions, Noguchi's sculptures appear to possess the quality of effortlessness, a virtue Japanese artists once valued above perfection.
