Description
Eighty-five paintings in color on linen, mounted in cloth-bound album of European style. Covers stamped in gold, in combination of Victorian and Chinoisserie ornament. Floral end-papers. Plate-numbers pencilled in lower right corners, following Asian right-to-left sequence. Inked in upper left corner of back cover: “85 platen. Eigendom van de heer J. ten Brooke Loomweg1a Bennekom” [85 plates. Property of the Lord J. ten Brooke Loomweg(?), 1a Bennekom (village in the Netherlands)]
Scenes illustrate weaving, carpentry, printing, etc. One sequence shows preparation of a corpse through cremation to deposit of ashes. Occassional scenes have inscriptions, presumably relating to occupation (should be read).
