Although he did not have a close connection with Princeton University, Benjamin Franklin was selected as one of the early American physicists to be represented in the sculptures that flank this entrance to the former Palmer Physical Laboratory, today the Frist Campus Center.
The two sculptures on either side of this entrance were created by Daniel Chester French, whose work was revered around the country. His most notable sculpture is that of Abraham Lincoln in the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. The building was donated by Stephen S. Palmer, a prominent businessman and trustee of Princeton University from 1903 to 1913.
