Description
Standing figure of Lü Dongbin 吕洞賓 (b. 796) with his robes open at the chest showing his long beard. His hands with long nails are held down clasped together below his stomach and he is barefooted. Lü Dongbin was a Tang dynasty scholar who was later elevated to become one of the of a group of deities known as the Eight Immortals. He is often depicted as being dressed as a scholar and carrying a sword on his back to dispels evil but is here shown weaponless in a more casual manner.
