Right, upper (title): 陶靖節先生像 Left, upper: Zhao Mengfu 趙孟頫 (1254-1322) 子昂 Rubbing seal: “Zhao shi Ziang” 趙氏子昂, sq. relief Bottom: Du Ruizheng 杜瑞徵 (1820-1895), zi: Xifyu熙甫, native of Guizhu 貴築 (present-day Guiyang貴陽), Guizhou province; an official. signed “Du Ruizheng,” dated 1877 [to be transcribed] 。。。金竹杜瑞徵跋。 Rubbing seals: “Rui” 瑞, sq. relief “Zheng” 徵, sq. intaglio Note: 1. Jinzhu 金竹 appears to by a place, clan, or community in Guizhou. It is on that basis that Du Ruizheng is tentatively identified as the official who lived 1820-1895.
Description
On two separate sheets of paper; the top has the standing figure of the poet Tao Qian (or Tao Yuanming, 365-427) holding a bamboo staff in his right hand. To the right is a title and of the left is a signature and seal of the Yuan dynasty artist and official Zhao Mengfu. The bottom sheet has an 1877 inscription by the official Du Ruicheng, who likely sponsored the carving of the pictorial stone from which this rubbing was taken.
