Description
Seated figure of Jiang Kui (1154-1221), a poet, composer, poetry theorist and calligrapher of the Song dynasty. Jiang is portrayed sitting on a chair holding a feather fan. A title and inscription are added at upper left. The inscription records that this portrait follows an image attributed to the Song dynasty court painter Bai Liangyu 白良玉 (act. late12th-early 13th century), which was purchased by Wu Chengguan in 1816 and copied by Xu Naigu 許乃穀 (juren 1821). In 1821, Yang Jun had this copy, omitting the inscriptions on the earlier version.
