Muscles and bones of the leg

Bartolomeo Torre, Italian, 1529 - 1554
x1948-757
According to Giorgio Vasari, the artist Bartolomeo Torri was so deeply absorbed with anatomical research that he “kept so many limbs and pieces of men under his bed, and all over his rooms, that they poisoned the whole house.” In this large drawing, Torri rendered the muscles and bones of the leg with touches of wash, in an abbreviated manner and with limited anatomical detail.

A friend of Alessandro Nova at the Louvre apparently believes this to be Bortolomeo Torre (Aretino artist, d. ca. 1554).;
