This civil official’s winter costume includes a blue, fur-lined outer garment with a square embroidered badge that depicts a long-tailed flycatcher (lianque) looking up at a red sun. This badge signaled the authority of a ninth-rank civil officer within the Qing dynasty imperial bureaucratic hierarchy.
