Inscription Signed: "Inscribed by Zhang Xiang 張祥 for the Wenkui 文魁 [provincial degree holder] Mr. Luo 羅先生" 1. Zhang Xiang has yet to be identified, but the use of "Mr." (先生) indicates a late Qing date. 2. "Wenkui" 文魁:乡试(清代乡试考场设于各省称贡院)于八月举行,亦曰秋闱。九月放榜(因时值秋季,桂花盛开,所以也称桂花榜),新科举人第一名称解元,第二名称亚元,第三、四、五名称经魁,第六名称亚魁,其余称文魁,均由国家颁给20两牌坊银和顶戴衣帽匾额。匾额悬挂住宅大门之上,门前可以树立牌坊。
